Who can play

You don't need to be an experienced water polo player to join. We're building a welcoming adult program for people at different experience levels.

New to Water Polo

Never played before? That's okay. We'll introduce you to the fundamentals and help you get comfortable with the game.

Getting Back in the Pool

Played in high school, college, or years ago? Come back, get in the water, and reconnect with the sport.

Experienced Players

Looking for regular practices and a team to play with? Come sharpen your skills and play with us.

Our goal is to create an inclusive program where recreational, developing, and experienced players can participate and grow together.

What to Expect

Each practice will combine swimming, skill development, and gameplay.

Swim

Build conditioning and get comfortable moving through the water.

Learn

Work on passing, shooting, positioning, defense, and other water polo fundamentals.

Play

Put your skills together through drills, team activities, and scrimmages.

Most importantly, come ready to learn, have fun, and play.

What do I Need

For your first practice, bring:

1. Swimsuit
2. Towel
3. Water bottle
4. Goggles (if you use them)
Don't have water polo equipment yet? No problem. We'll provide information about what you need as you get started.

Get Started

There are two things to do before you join us in the pool.

1. Register with USA Water Polo - An active USA Water Polo membership is required to participate in USA Water Polo club practices. If you are already a member, make sure your membership is current before your first practice. Not ready to totally commit? Sign up for a 2 week trial USAWP Membership.
2. Join Our Interest List - Complete our short interest survey so we can learn a little about you and keep you updated as we get closer to launch.

Launching with No Grunion Dues

There are currently no Grunions Water Polo dues during the initial launch period! Because there are no Grunions Water Polo dues at this time, you do not need to register through Club Assistant. You will still need an active USA Water Polo membership to participate. We'll share information about future program fees as the program develops.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never played water polo. Can I join?
Absolutely. The program is open to beginners as well as experienced players.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should be comfortable swimming and participating in an active pool environment. Practices will include swimming, conditioning, and continuous movement in the water.
Do I need to be a Grunions swimmer?
No. You do not need to participate in the Grunions swim program to join Water Polo.
Is this recreational or competitive?
We're building the program around the people who join. We'll have opportunities for recreational play, skill development, and potentially more competitive play as the program grows.
How much does it cost?
There are currently no Grunions Water Polo dues during the initial launch period. You will still need an active USA Water Polo membership.
Do I need to register through Club Assistant?
Not at this time.
