The Gay and Lesbian Center of Greater Long Beach provides services to support, inform and connect the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities through programs of information and education, physical and mental well-being, cultural and social activities, and social justice. We advocate for the inclusion of all individuals into a free and just community, without judgment or restriction due to sexual orientation or gender expression.
International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) is the world's foremost international organization solely devoted to developing and promoting gay and lesbian swimming, water polo, diving, and synchronized swimming. Their mission is to promote participation in aquatic sports among lesbians and gay men and friends of our community, and to ensure maintenance of the highest standards for aquatic competitions and international standards for all Gay Games and IGLA Championships.
The Federation of Gay Games perpetuates the quadrennial Gay Games and safeguards its founding principles of Participation, Inclusion, and Personal Best. An all-volunteer organisation, the Federation is made up of individuals and organisations representing four continents.
United States Masters Swimming, Inc. (USMS) provides the national administrative structure for Masters swimming, and it supports the local Masters programs. USMS was founded in 1970 and currently has over 48,000 members with more than 500 local swim clubs in 52 regions throughout the United States. USMS holds national championships each year for short course yards in the spring and long course meters in the summer.
On the local level, Masters swimming is governed by Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSC). The LMSC for our area is Southern Pacific Masters Association (SPMA); the local association that encompasses Southern California and parts of Nevada. SPMA has approximately 3,400 members.
