Long Beach Grunions Swim Team

Think like a human, Swim like a Grunion!     There is no time like the present to get in shape and meet some new friends! We have swimmers of all levels and we strongly encourage anyone interested in swimming to come join us in the pool.

Our Team

We have approximately 100 people on the team. Our team ranges in age from 19 to 75 years old. We have swimmers at all levels of ability from rank beginners to expert competitive swimmers.

Requirements

We only have a few requirements to join the swim team:

• You must be at least 18 years of age
• You can swim (don't worry about speed, distance or technique)
• You complete and submit either the Grunion Try-Out form (just to swim with us)
• -OR- the Grunion Membership form (to join the team)
• You become a member of SPMA by completing the SPMA registration process*
• Pay annual dues to SPMA and monthly dues to the Long Beach Grunions (see below)
• You have the desire to be part of a fun, dynamic swim team

*SPMA (Southern Pacific Masters Association) allows registration via a paper form that can be completed and mailed with a check or via an online process using your credit card. Complete information is available at their Website.

We welcome beginners! If you are really uncertain about joining, come by and watch one of our practice sessions, talk to our coach and swim team members and then join us for food afterwards and get to know us.

Dues

Team Dues: $35.00 per month

In order to keep our team functioning, we charge a small monthly fee to all of our members. This fee pays for pool rental, club registration to the Masters Association, insurance, etc. Your dues also cover the regular entry fees at each pool. Dues are collected from team members the first week of every month. Monthly dues are non-refundable as the coach and pool must be ready for practice regardless of whether or not you can make every practice.

One Month Trial Membership

All new members receive a one month** trial membership. Come to swim practice and give it a try! You have nothing to lose.

Grunion Stimulus Package

The Grunions are proud to sponsor a scholarship program intended to help any struggling Grunion to pay his or her monthly dues. This is a need-based subsidy of $15 per month to go toward the regular monthly dues of $35.

Applicants may be Grunions of any age or ability. This needs-based scholarship is open to anyone, whether you are a veteran of many years or a newbie still in your 30-day free trial. Every four months, the recipients will be reviewed for ongoing eligibility.

As a scholarship recipient, we want to make sure that you are fully using the services being subsidized. Therefore, the committee has created some general minimum guidelines the recipients have to adhere to during each 4-month period:

• attend 8 or more practices per month;
• compete in one swim meet per 4-month period or help at a fundraiser.

SPMA Dues: $40 per calendar year

You will also need to have a membership with SPMA. SPMA provides our insurance and also allows you to enter Masters Swim Meets. In addition you get a subscription to Swim Magazine, a bi-monthly national swimming publication. New members have a one month** trial before they are required to join SPMA.

We use PayPal to process online dues payments. Using PayPal is free and easy. You may choose to pay with a credit card or have your dues withdrawn directly from your bank account.

One-Time Payment

To purchase one month's club dues (non-recurring) with PayPal, click on the button below.

Subscription

A monthly, quarterly or annual subscription will save you the hassle of having to remember to pay your monthly dues each month. The PayPal system will automatically charge your credit card or bank account each period until you cancel your subscription. This is by far the easiest plan and the one that most of our members use.

Cancel Subscription

Should you choose to leave the Long Beach Grunions, you should remember to cancel your automatic dues payments. This is your responsibility as we do not have the ability to cancel your subscription.
