This postal swim looks like fun. Results are national and there is potential for All-American status. Anyone interested in organizing or competing? Might be an event of interest to the triathlete folks.
A 5k would take 65-85 minutes for painlaners. Maybe we could do this at Jordan High School over a long enough session for two rounds of swimmers? A digital clock would be very handy.
Thursday July 2 at 59th place Long Beach 10-11am
Swim in the bay along the shore toward 55th place and then around Treasure Island. We will cover the course for the Naples Island 1-mile swim (NIS will be Aug 11).
July 11 practice is cancelled due to conflict with the competition that day.
Please RSVP here on the forum or to Jacqueline@LBGRUNIONS.org

Anyone know of a pool open for lap swim that has a saltwater filtration system? They've been building them for years and finally, new pools are now more likely to be salt than chlorine...but are any public or otherwise open to a swimmer who is allergic to chlorine?

IGLA Registration requires the discount promotion code on the front page, as part of creating a username. Input EGLSF09. You'll know if it worked if your card is charged $224.71 instead of the normal $280.

$16.32 starting pay. $17.11 if you have EMT, another 30-50 cents if you are conversational in Spanish. Good money!
Good luck to all participating Grunions! Here are a few tips from the fastest swimmer of the 1999 tryouts. Do the course the day before to prepare for the chilly water and get a sight-line on the second buoy. Ask the lifeguards about conditions and race day expectations. Do a run to warm up before the race, jog in place to keep warm while in your suit waiting for the start. Wear TWO CAPS to retain more heat. Anti-fog your goggles to see the buoy better. Be at the front of the starting group and sprint to the water with high knees--it's easier to pass on the run into the water than while swimming over your competitors. If you are fast and fit, you can do it!
