It's only the second day at IGLA 2011, but the Grunions have been already shining in Honolulu, adding some California sizzle to this wonderful, tropical Hawaiian summer. Our 35+Grunion contingent is representing the team really well, and special kudos go to our Grunion Women, who make up a sizable portion of the IGLA female competitors and have been winning medals like crazy!
In fact, thanks to the Grunion Women, our team ended the first day of IGLA competitions ahead of everybody else. Monica Turner and Anne Jacobus both won gold in their respective age groups for the 1500-meter freestyle; while Ann Oakleaf and Anita Cole won silver medals, and Dana Trujillo won bronze. The men also represented us well the first day, with Steve Kovary winning gold, and in the process breaking the IGLA record for his age group for the 1500-meter freestyle. In addition, Jeff Liu and Kjell Stava both won bronze medals in the 1500-meter for their respective age groups.
